Hedge Planting

Stripe Gardens are experienced at large scale hedge planting. Due to continuing landscape contracts with housing developers we have excellent relationships with plant growers enabling us to gain preferential rates that we can pass on to other clients who use our services for planting hedges.

Stripe gardens are happy to provide advice to potential clients on the best hedge for particular situation. We will take into account soil, light, drainage and intended use of hedge as a start point of recommending a shortlist of possible plants.

Whether you want to start small and watch your hedge grow as part of the garden to it's intended height, or install an instant hedge for instant necessary screening we can provide the plants to suit.

We have installed instant evergreen hedging of 5m tall to block out a new development, this was achieved using conifers although the same goal is achievable with lower hedging and the addition of trees to gain height above for a greater range of planting options, variation and interest.

Hedge Planting Aftercare

It is important to bear in mind many hedging plants will be supplied as root ball plants, or even bare root to keep costs sensible. Therefore careful planting and ongoing care are essential, especially in the first growing season to aid good root growth as the plants are delivered with root systems that are not capable of supporting a plant through a summer season until new roots are produced.

Here Stripe Gardens have services to help:

Adding a 50mm mulch of high grade compost beneith the plants stops rainwater evaporating. As a bonus it also improves soil structure and adds nutrients into the root zone as rain takes the water soluble nutrients down into the soil.

Stripe Gardens also have irrigation hire packages to suit most applications. Even when water pressure is low and not capable of running an irrigation system, we can supply systems that use tanks filled through the daytime on low pressure and are pumped at higher pressure during the early hours by our commercial water pumps.
